Portfolio
Phillip Lopate, in The Art of the Personal Essay, writes that “the essay is a notoriously flexible and adaptable form … open to digression and promiscuous meanderings.” This could also be said about collage.
My artistic practice mirrors this essayistic approach. I start with a seed and — through digression and experimentation — question the connections it evokes. Through this process, I explore my own reactions and try to express something about them that is both self-reflective and opens up a potential narrative. As with the personal essay, the final product is meant less to answer a question than to take the viewer with me on a journey.
I work with magazines, books, craft paper, and fabric on paper, wood, and metal to create two- and three-dimensional collages. I often create characters or scenes in my visual work that evoke narrative, and are accompanied by snippets of text. I published my first collage book, The Life and Design of Frédéric Le ShoeShoe, in March, 2025. The book is currently being translated into French.
Nonsensical Beasts
These collages are part of a series entitled “Aloura’s Menagerie of Nonsensical Beasts.” I am working towards making these into a children’s book.
Other work
Here are some miscellaneous collages to give you an idea of the different things I make. Many of these are badly photographed by me and will eventually be replaced by better quality images or scans.

Ms. T Goes to Washington
One of a series of dinosaur collages. More to come!
